Culmore, Virginia is a small, busy area in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States. It's like a mini-town located between two other places called Seven Corners and the Skyline area. You can find it right on a main road called State Route 7.

What is Culmore?

Culmore is part of a larger area known as Bailey's Crossroads. The name "Culmore" comes from the Culmore Shopping Center. This shopping center is like the heart of the community. It's on the south side of Route 7, also known as Leesburg Pike. The center is surrounded by Route 7, Glen Carlyn Road, Argyle Drive, and Glen Carlyn Drive.

Famous Visitors

The Culmore Shopping Center is home to the Peking Gourmet Inn restaurant. Even a former president, George H.W. Bush, has eaten there!

Who Lives in Culmore?

Over the years, "Culmore" has grown to mean more than just the shopping center. It now includes nearby buildings. These include the St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church. There are also many garden-style apartment homes behind the shopping center. Most people living in this area have Hispanic backgrounds. Many families come from Central American countries.

Local Government and Services

Even though Culmore is a busy place, it doesn't have its own local government. It's part of Bailey's Crossroads. All the homes and businesses in the area use a Falls Church postal address. Culmore is located within the Mason District of the Fairfax County government. This means Fairfax County handles local services for the area.

Culmore During the Civil War

The Culmore area played a role during the American Civil War. In the early part of the war, soldiers were active here. Confederate troops were on nearby Munson's Hill and Upton's Hill. Culmore became a "no man's land" between the two sides. Union soldiers were set up to the east. This made Culmore a place where small fights and skirmishes often happened.
