Custio Clayton, born on October 5, 1987, is a talented Canadian professional boxer. He is known for holding the WBA-NABA welterweight title since 2019. Before becoming a professional, Custio was a very successful amateur boxer. He won the Canadian national championship six times! He also proudly represented Canada in two Commonwealth Games and the 2012 Olympics. Custio started boxing when he was just 9 years old, learning from his uncle, Gary Johnson.

Custio's Boxing Journey
Starting as an Amateur Boxer
Custio Clayton began his boxing journey at the City of Lakes Boxing Club in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. He was only 11 years old when he had his first amateur fight. He took a short break from boxing at 17 to focus on finishing high school.
Custio was one of only two Canadian male boxers to qualify for the 2012 Olympics in London. At the Olympics, he became the first Canadian in eight years to win a boxing match. He beat Óscar Molina in his first fight. Then, he defeated the Australian boxer Cameron Hammond. Custio reached the quarter-finals, where he bravely fought before losing to Fred Evans. This was a great achievement for him and for Canada!
Becoming a Professional Boxer
In November 2014, Custio Clayton officially became a professional boxer. He signed a contract with Groupe Yvon Michel (GYM). His very first professional fight took place on December 19, 2014, in Quebec City. He fought in the light middleweight division.
Custio has had many exciting fights as a professional.
- On January 28, 2020, he won by knockout against Diego Ramirez. This win helped him keep his WBA title.
- On October 24, 2020, Custio fought against former world champion Sergey Lipinets for the IBF world title. The fight was very close and ended in a draw, meaning neither boxer won.
- On May 14, 2022, Custio recorded his first loss against Jaron Ennis. This was an important "eliminator" fight, which helps decide who gets to challenge for a world title.
