Cuyón is a small community, called a barrio, located in the municipality of Aibonito, Puerto Rico. A municipality is like a larger town area or county. In 2010, about 977 people lived in Cuyón.
The Cuyón River flows through this barrio and also through the nearby town of Coamo.

History of Cuyón
Early History and Spanish Rule
Puerto Rico was once a territory of Spain. After the Spanish–American War in 1898, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened under the rules of the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico then became an unincorporated territory of the United States. This means it is part of the U.S. but does not have all the same rights as a state.
Population Changes Over Time
In 1899, the United States Department of War conducted a count of all the people in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census. The census found that 1,027 people lived in Cuyón barrio at that time. The population has changed over the years, as you can see in the table below.
