Cuzco (say it like KUZ-co) is a small, unincorporated community located in Dubois County, Indiana. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. It's part of Columbia Township in the state of Indiana, USA.
History of Cuzco
Cuzco was officially planned and laid out in 1905 by a person named William H. Nicholson. It got its name from a famous city in Peru called Cusco.
A post office opened in Cuzco in 1902. It served the community for many years until it closed down in 1955.
A well-known historian of the Civil War, Gilbert R. Tredway, grew up in Cuzco during the 1920s and 1930s.
Education in Cuzco
Students in Columbia Township, where Cuzco is located, attend schools within the Northeast Dubois County School Corporation.
Before 1948, Cuzco had its own high school. The school's colors were black and white, and their sports teams were called the "Bear Cubs." In 1948, the Cuzco high school joined with Dubois High School. This combined school later became known as Northeast Dubois High School.
