Cybele Rowe (born in 1963 in Sydney, Australia) is a talented artist. She creates amazing sculptures, mostly using ceramics. Today, she lives and works in Yucca Valley, California, in the United States. She is famous for her very large ceramic sculptures. Cybele has been showing her art in the US and Australia for almost 30 years.

Life and Art Journey

Cybele Rowe was born in 1963 in Sydney, Australia. She went to high school at Loreto Convent Kirribilli. Later, she studied art at the City Art Institute University in New South Wales. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

After her studies, important art groups noticed her work. The Australian Council even gave her a special grant. This helped her go to New York City in 1990 to learn more and create art. She had an art studio in New York for eight years. In 1998, she moved to Silverado, California. In 2016, she moved to her current home in Yucca Valley, California.

Before moving to New York, Cybele showed her art in galleries in Australia. These included the Blaxland Gallery in Sydney. In the United States, her art has been shown in famous places. These include the World Bank, the Kennedy Center, and the Smithsonian.

Her huge sculptures were main attractions at big art shows. These included the 2018 Los Angeles Art Show. She was also named one of the "Most Influential People" by a magazine in 2015.

Cybele Rowe has also taught art and sculpture. She taught young children in a program called "The Great Clay Adventure." In 2013, she was a special artist-in-residence. This was at the National Art School in Sydney, Australia. She taught a class there called "Building Big with Cybele." She also taught an art class at Saddleback College.

Her Sculptures

Much of Cybele Rowe's art includes large bronze casts and clay sculptures. She also creates many ceramic pieces. Her art is very abstract. It has flowing patterns and bright colors. She says she likes to create "organically and intuitively." This means she lets her ideas flow naturally. She wants to give her abstract thoughts a physical shape. She builds unique models almost without thinking.

A big part of her work explores human forms and feelings. She has created several series of sculptures. These series have names like Vessels, Pleasing Female Imagery, and Femelements. Other series include Big Girls, Squat Girls, Fertility, and Husks.

Some of these series were made after her first son was born. This helped her find her identity again as an artist. The Fertility series was finished after her daughter was born. This series looked at feelings like love and desire. The Husks series features large, off-white ceramic sculptures. They have scratches and etchings. This series explores ideas about identity and change.
