The Cycladenia humilis is a special plant. It is the only type of plant in its group, called Cycladenia. People often call it the Sacramento waxydogbane. This plant is quite rare.

You can find the Sacramento waxydogbane in the southwestern United States. It grows mostly in California. But it has also been seen in Utah and Arizona. This plant likes to grow in soils that have a lot of gypsum. It also prefers higher places in mountain ranges.

What Does It Look Like?

The Sacramento waxydogbane is a perennial herb. This means it is a plant that lives for more than two years. It has thick, fleshy stems and dull green leaves.

Its flowers are a pretty pinkish-lavender color. When they first appear, the flowers look like small, rolled-up tubes. They are shaped a bit like pea pods. Then, they open up into colorful, funnel-shaped blooms.

Why Is It Special?

One type of this plant is called the Jones waxydogbane. This specific type is considered a threatened species. This means it is at risk of disappearing. Protecting these plants helps keep our natural world diverse and healthy.
