Cynthia Hedge-Morrell, born on September 4, 1947, is a former teacher and school leader. She is also a politician from New Orleans, Louisiana. She belongs to the Democratic Party. She served on the New Orleans City Council, which helps run the city, from 2005 to 2014.

Her Early Life and Education
Cynthia Hedge-Morrell studied at two universities in New Orleans. She earned a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from the University of New Orleans. This means she learned how to teach young children. Later, she got her master's degree from Loyola University New Orleans.
Her Time on the City Council
Cynthia Hedge-Morrell first joined the New Orleans City Council in a special election on April 2, 2005. She won with a large number of votes.
She was re-elected in 2006. This election happened after Hurricane Katrina, a very powerful storm, hit New Orleans. Many people in the city were unhappy with how things were handled after the hurricane. Because of this, many politicians, including some of her colleagues, had a harder time getting re-elected.
In 2007, she had a small incident while driving. She later said she was sorry for her comments during that time.
Cynthia Hedge-Morrell also appeared in a documentary film called America Betrayed in 2008. This film was about politics.
In 2014, Cynthia Hedge-Morrell could not run for her old seat on the City Council again. This was because of "term limits," which are rules that say how long a person can serve in a political job. She then ran for a different city-wide seat but did not win.
Her Family Life
Since 1966, Cynthia Hedge-Morrell has been married to Arthur A. Morrell. He is also a politician. He served as a state representative for Louisiana from 1984 to 2006. After that, he became the Clerk of Criminal Court for Orleans Parish. This means he helps manage the records for the criminal court.
Cynthia Hedge-Morrell and her husband were also in a documentary film. It was called When The Levees Broke: A Requiem In Four Acts. This film was about the impact of Hurricane Katrina.
She is a member of the Catholic Church.
