Early Life and Family
Cynthia Pine's father was from British Guiana (now Guyana). He came to Britain during the Second World War as a soldier. While in Britain, he met Cynthia's mother, and they got married after the war.
At that time, it was not always easy for people from different backgrounds to marry. Cynthia's father faced challenges finding work because of racism. This made it hard for the family to find a place to live. Eventually, they settled in Birmingham. Cynthia also experienced racism at school, as she was the only Black child there. Despite these difficulties, she went on to achieve great things.
