Cynyr Ceinfarfog facts for kids
Cynyr Ceinfarfog was a ruler from an old Welsh kingdom called Kingdom of Dyfed. He lived around the year 480 AD. His name was also known as Cunoricus in Latin, or Kendrick and Cynyr the Red in English.
Some stories say he was born a Roman citizen. He ruled from a place called Caer Goch, near St. Davids in Wales. Historians sometimes wonder if he was a saint instead of a king.
Cynyr in Arthurian Legends
In the very first Welsh stories about King Arthur, Cynyr Ceinfarfog was the person who raised King Arthur. He was Arthur's foster parent. His own son, Sir Kay, was also part of these legends. Later versions of the Arthurian tales changed this, saying that Sir Ector raised Arthur instead.
