D.C. Minner (born January 28, 1935, died May 6, 2008) was a cool American blues musician. He was also a teacher and a thinker who loved sharing music with everyone, especially kids, all over Oklahoma and beyond!
He was born in Rentiesville, Oklahoma. D.C. played music with famous artists like Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley! In 1999, he was honored by being put into the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame. D.C. and his wife, Selby Minner, owned a special place called the 'Down Home Blues Club'. There, they hosted a big yearly music party called the 'Dusk 'til Dawn Blues Festival'. They even won an award for their 'Blues in the Schools' program, which taught blues music to kids!

D.C. Minner's Musical Journey
Early Years and New Sounds
D.C. Minner started his music career in the 1950s and 1960s. He played with different groups, including Larry Johnson and a band called NEW BREED. He often played the bass guitar during these years.
Around 1970, D.C. decided to try something new. He switched from playing bass to playing the guitar. He also moved to Berkeley, a city in California, to explore more music.
Forming Bands and Teaching Music
In 1976, D.C. Minner started his own band called BLUES ON THE MOVE. This band became very popular. In 1979, D.C. married Selby Minner, who also loved music.
BLUES ON THE MOVE was added to the Oklahoma Arts Council Rosters in 1990. This meant they were recognized as an important musical group in Oklahoma. They often performed and shared their music with many people.
The Down Home Blues Club
In 1988, D.C. Minner reopened a special place. It was his grandmother's old spot, "Lura's Cozy Corner." He turned it into the "Down Home Blues Club." This club became a famous place for blues music.
The Dusk 'til Dawn Blues Festival
In 1991, D.C. and Selby Minner started something amazing. They created the Dusk 'til Dawn Blues Festival. This festival is a huge yearly event in Rentiesville, Oklahoma. It brings together many blues musicians and fans.
Awards and Recognition
D.C. Minner received many honors for his music and his work. In 1999, he was inducted into the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame. This is a big award for musicians in Oklahoma.
Also in 1999, D.C. and Selby Minner won an international award. It was called a KBA from the Blues Foundation in Memphis. They earned this award for their "Blues in the Schools" (BITS) program. This program taught blues music to school children, helping them learn about this important American art form.
In 2003, D.C. Minner was inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame. He was also voted into the Payne County Hall of Fame by popular choice. A street next to his Blues Club was even named after him!
