How DiC Entertainment Started
Early Years in the 1980s
DiC Entertainment began in 1971 in France. It was first called D.i.C. Audiovisuel. The company's main goal was to create fun animated shows.
In 1982, DiC opened an office in the United States. This new office was in Burbank, California. It was called DiC Enterprises.
By 1986, Andy Heyward bought the company. The US office then became the main place where DiC worked.
Growing in the 1990s
In 1993, DiC partnered with a company called Capital Cities/ABC. They formed a new group called DIC Entertainment LP.
A few years later, in 1995, DiC became part of The Walt Disney Company. This meant DiC was owned by Disney for a while.
Changes in the 2000s
In 2000, Andy Heyward bought DiC back. He got help from an investment company. By 2004, he owned the company completely again.
DiC also started its own TV block for kids in 2003. It was called the DiC Kids Network. This block showed DiC's cartoons on different TV channels.
In 2006, DiC teamed up with CBS Corporation. They created a new Saturday morning cartoon block for CBS. This block was called KOL Secret Slumber Party on CBS.
In 2007, DiC Entertainment worked with other companies. They planned to launch a new international TV channel for kids called KidsCo.
The Merger with Cookie Jar
On June 20, 2008, it was announced that DiC would be bought. The company buying it was the Cookie Jar Group.
On July 23, 2008, the deal was finished. DiC Entertainment officially merged with Cookie Jar Entertainment. This marked the end of DiC Entertainment as a separate company.
