Early Life and Education

Kevin Bell grew up in Detroit. He went to Gesu Elementary School and later graduated from Shrine Catholic High School in 1989. He then studied at Michigan State University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering in 1994.

From a young age, Bell was interested in music. Between 1978 and 1989, he studied Classical and Jazz Piano at the Detroit Community Music School. While working at a radio station in the mid-1990s, he and the rapper Proof created and released a popular mixtape series.

Career in Music and Television

DJ Head has appeared on many popular television shows with the artists he worked with. He was on Saturday Night Live with Eminem and MTV Spring Break with Eminem, Xzibit, and Dr. Dre. He also performed at the Grammy Awards and the EMA's with Eminem.

He even had a role in the movie 8 Mile. In the film, he played the DJ during the exciting rap battle scenes. These scenes were based on real-life rap battles that used to happen at a place called the Hip Hop Shop in Detroit.

A fun fact is that Eminem has said DJ Head was the one who introduced him to 50 Cent's music. DJ Head found a mixtape by 50 Cent in New York City. This discovery led to 50 Cent signing a major record deal with Shady, Aftermath, and Interscope Records.
