Obie Trice III, born on November 14, 1977, is an American rapper. He is known for his music and for working with famous artists. Obie Trice signed with Eminem's record label, Shady Records, in 2000. He released his first two albums, Cheers (2003) and Second Round's on Me (2006), with this label. These albums were very popular and reached the top ten on the Billboard 200 chart. After leaving Shady Records, Obie Trice started his own music company called Black Market Entertainment.

Early Life and Music Start
Obie Trice III grew up in Detroit, Michigan, with his mother and three brothers. When he was 11, his mother gave him a karaoke machine. He used it to practice rapping over music from other artists. By age 14, he was going to rap battles in Detroit. These battles were hosted by Proof from the group D12. People liked his rapping, which made him want to become a serious rapper.
At first, Trice called himself "Obie 1." But before Proof introduced him at a rap battle, he asked for his real name. He then introduced him as "Obie Trice," which became his stage name. Later, Obie Trice met Eminem through D12 member Bizarre. Trice's manager then set up a meeting for him to have dinner with Eminem.
Obie Trice's Music Career
Joining Shady Records (2000–2002)
Obie Trice officially joined Shady Records in 2000. He appeared on the D12 album Devil's Night with a freestyle skit. He also had a short intro on Eminem's song "Without Me" and was featured on the song "Drips" from The Eminem Show. In 2002, Trice rapped on songs for the 8 Mile movie soundtrack. He also had a small role in the movie as a rapper.
Cheers Album Success (2003–2004)
Obie Trice's first album, Cheers, came out on September 23, 2003. Its first song, "Got Some Teeth", became very popular on the radio. "Got Some Teeth" reached number 54 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the U.S. It also made it into the top ten in the United Kingdom. Other songs released from the album included "The Set Up" and "Don't Come Down".
The Cheers album had 17 songs. Many famous producers like Eminem, Dr. Dre, and Timbaland helped create the music. Other artists like Busta Rhymes, 50 Cent, and Nate Dogg were also featured on the album. Cheers was a big success and was certified platinum, meaning it sold over a million copies. Trice also appeared on the song Hennessey from Tupac Shakur's album Loyal To The Game.
Second Round's on Me (2005–2007)
In 2005, Obie Trice started working on his second album, called Second Round's on Me. This album was released on August 15, 2006. After this album, he released a mixtape called Bar Shots. A mixtape is like a collection of songs, often with new or unreleased tracks.
Leaving Shady Records (2008–2009)
In June 2008, Obie Trice decided to leave Shady Records. He felt that his music was not being promoted enough. However, he did not have any problems with Eminem or Dr. Dre. In fact, both of them helped with his next album. There was a misunderstanding that he was criticizing the label on a song called "The Giant," but this was quickly cleared up.
Special Reserve (2009–2010)
On December 15, 2009, a special album called Special Reserve was released. This album was a collection of eleven songs Obie Trice recorded with producer MoSS between 1997 and 2000. It was released before his next main album, Bottoms Up.
Personal Life
Obie Trice's first child, a daughter, was born in 1998. He has said that her birth made him want to work even harder on his music career.
