Music Career
How It All Started
Cashis discovered his love for rapping when he was just 12 years old. He would practice by freestyling (making up rhymes on the spot) with his cousin. By the time he was 14, he recorded his first song in a professional studio.
At age 17, he started taking his music career seriously. He began performing in rap battles in the Los Angeles and Orange County areas. At the time, he used the stage name "Lil Ramone."
Joining Shady Records
By 2004, Cashis had become well-known in the Orange County rap scene. His talent caught the attention of Dart Parker, who worked for Eminem's label, Shady Records. After hearing Cashis's mixtape Stars With Stripes, Parker signed him to the label.
In 2006, the world was introduced to Cashis on the Shady Records album Eminem Presents: The Re-Up. He appeared on the album's first single, "You Don't Know," with Eminem, 50 Cent, and Lloyd Banks. He also had his own solo songs on the album, like "Everything Is Shady" and "Talkin' All That."
First Solo Releases
On May 22, 2007, Cashis released his first solo project on Shady Records, an eight-song EP called The County Hound EP. An EP, or Extended Play, is like a short album. It appeared on the Billboard 200 chart, which tracks the most popular albums in the U.S. Eminem produced most of the EP and was the only guest artist.
After the EP, Cashis planned to release a full album called Loose Cannon. However, the album was delayed. He eventually decided to leave Shady Records in 2012 to release music on his own. He released his first full album, The Art of Dying, on October 30, 2012.
Independent Success
Cashis continued to make music with his own label, Bogish Brand. On October 15, 2013, he released his second album, The County Hound 2. Eminem helped produce four songs on this album. It featured singles like "Layin in the Cut" and "Mind on My Money (Money on My Mind)".
He followed this with more albums, including ... in 2014 and The County Hound 3 in 2015. He has continued to release new music for his fans, building his career as an independent artist.
