Jennifer Damaris, better known by her stage name DJ Minx, is a world-famous DJ and music producer from Detroit, Michigan. She is a major figure in the world of house and techno music. She is also the founder of a group for female DJs called 'Women on Wax'.

A DJ's Journey
DJ Minx was born in Detroit in 1967. She was inspired to start DJing in the 1990s after seeing other DJs perform at a famous Detroit club called the Music Institute. A DJ, or disc jockey, is someone who plays recorded music for an audience.
She started her career by hosting radio shows. One was called Deep Space Radio in Detroit, and another was Steamy Windows for a university in Canada. These shows helped her share her love for electronic music. Soon, she became a regular DJ at Club Motor, a popular spot in Michigan.
Performing for the World
In 2000, DJ Minx performed at the very first Detroit Electronic Music Festival. This is a huge event that celebrates the city's techno music history. She has played at the festival, now called Movement, many times.
Her skills have taken her far beyond Detroit. She regularly plays at big music festivals and clubs across the United States and around the world. In March 2025, she even performed a special halftime show for the Detroit Pistons basketball team.
Making Music
Besides playing music, DJ Minx is also a producer, which means she creates her own original songs. In 2001, she released her first collection of songs, an EP called Introduction.
A Walk in the Park
One of her most famous tracks is called "A Walk in the Park," released in 2001. The song became even more popular when it was re-released in 2004 by M_nus, the record label of famous DJ Richie Hawtin.
To celebrate the song's 20th anniversary, several well-known artists created new remixes of the track. A remix is a new version of a song made by a different artist.
Awards and Recognition
DJ Minx's talent has earned her many honors.
- In 2015, the magazine Mixmag named her one of the 20 most important women in the history of dance music.
- In 2016, Time Out New York magazine called her one of the "best house music DJs of all time."
- In 2018, she received the Spirit of Detroit award for her positive contributions to the city.
Supporting the Community
DJ Minx is a proud supporter of the LGBTQ+ community. In June 2021, during Pride Month, a large painting of her was created on the side of Detroit's Ruth Ellis Center, a place that helps young people.
That same month, she released a song called "Purse First." The money from the song was donated to the Ruth Ellis Center. She also released an EP titled Queendom on a London-based record label.
Women on Wax
In 1996, DJ Minx founded Women on Wax. It is a group created to support and promote female DJs from Detroit.
In 2001, she started her own record label called Women on Wax Recordings. A record label is a company that helps artists record and sell their music. This label gives female artists a platform to share their own house and techno music with the world.
