How it Started: The History of DWCP-DTV
The Southern Broadcasting Network from Davao launched SBN Channel 21 in 1992. This was the first local UHF TV station in Metro Manila. It was first called World TV 21. It showed programs from ABC, CNN, and ESPN. The idea was to bring back shows similar to those from FEN Channel 17. That station had closed down a year earlier.
On January 1, 2008, Solar Entertainment Corporation started using SBN's broadcast time. They chose to show programs from their entertainment channel, ETC. This partnership ended on March 2, 2011. Solar moved ETC to another network, RPN. After that, SBN and Solar worked together again. They created a news network called Talk TV. On October 30, 2012, this channel was renamed Solar News Channel.
On December 1, 2013, Solar News Channel moved to RPN. This was to reach more people across the country. ETC then returned to SBN the day before. In 2015, SBN stopped using its old analog transmitter. This transmitter was in Pasig City. Instead, they started using a new tower built by Solar in Antipolo. This new tower gave a clearer and better signal. It worked for both analog and digital broadcasts. SBN turned off its analog signal on September 12, 2019.
