Jamal Said (born around 1965 – died August 24, 2012) was an important figure in the Pakistani Taliban. He was better known by his chosen name, Mullah Dadullah, or Maulana Mohammad Jamal. He declared himself a leader of the Taliban in the northern Bajaur Agency area of Pakistan. Dadullah passed away on August 24, 2012, in the Shigal wa Sheltan District of Afghanistan's Kunar Province. This happened during a military operation involving NATO forces. His deputy and ten other Taliban members also died in the same event.
Early Life and Education
Jamal Said was born in Khar, Bajaur. He received his religious education in Panjpir. Before becoming a commander, he served as a prayer leader.
Becoming a Leader
Reports from the AP state that Dadullah became a leader after the previous Pakistani Taliban leader in Bajaur, Maulvi Faqir Mohammed, left for Afghanistan. This happened to avoid operations by the Pakistani army. After Dadullah's death, Maulana Abu Bakr took over his role.
