Daigoro Kondo (近藤 台五郎, Kondo Daigoro, June 1, 1907 – February 9, 1991) was a Japanese football player. He played as a defender for the Japan national team.
Club career
Daigoro Kondo was born in Tokyo on June 1, 1907. He played football for a team called Tokyo Imperial University LB. This team was made up of players who were students or had graduated from the Tokyo Imperial University.
National team career
In August 1927, when Kondo was still a student at Mito High School, he was chosen to play for the Japan national team. He joined them for the 1927 Far Eastern Championship Games in Shanghai.
On August 27, he played his first game against the Republic of China team. Two days later, on August 29, he also played against the Philippines. Japan won this match! This was a very special moment because it was the Japan national team's first ever victory in an official international game. Kondo played a total of 2 games for Japan in 1927.
After retirement
After finishing his studies at Tokyo Imperial University, Kondo stopped playing football. He became a doctor. He also worked as a professor at Tokyo Women's Medical University.
Daigoro Kondo passed away on February 9, 1991, in Yokosuka. He was 83 years old. He died from a medical issue in his brain.
