Daine Laurie's Rugby League Journey
Starting His Career in Rugby League
Daine Laurie was born in Yamba, New South Wales. He began playing junior rugby league for the Yamba Dolphins. Later, he was signed by the Western Suburbs Magpies. He played for them in the NSW Cup, which is a league below the NRL.
Playing for Wests Tigers
In June 2008, Daine Laurie signed a two-year contract with the Wests Tigers. He joined the team in the same year. In Round 15 of the 2008 NRL season, he made his first appearance in the NRL. This important debut match was against the Brisbane Broncos.
Moving to Penrith Panthers
In September 2009, Laurie signed a two-year deal to play for the Penrith Panthers. He started with the Panthers in the 2010 season. He had been released from his contract with the Tigers.
After joining the Panthers, Laurie shared his thoughts about his time at the Wests Tigers. He felt that he was not always welcomed there. He also mentioned that the atmosphere at the Tigers was often negative for him.
First Game with the Panthers
Daine Laurie made his debut for the Panthers in a match against the New Zealand Warriors. The Panthers lost this game 12–6 at CUA Stadium. He had missed the first 17 rounds of the season due to some minor injuries. After this one game, he missed the next training session. Because of this, he was moved back to play in the NSW Cup. He played a total of three games for the Panthers that season.
Playing in France and Return
After the 2010 season ended, Laurie went to France. He joined the Saint-Gaudens Bears for a short time. This was to gain more playing experience before the next season started in Australia.
When Laurie returned to Australia, he faced some issues. He was not immediately allowed to play for the Panthers. This was due to a disagreement with his French club. On 19 June 2011, Laurie was released from the Panthers. This decision was made for disciplinary reasons.
Playing in Local Leagues
After leaving the Panthers, Daine Laurie continued his rugby league career. He signed with the Macquarie Scorpions. This team plays in the Newcastle Rugby League, a local competition.
Time with Newcastle Knights
On 20 November 2011, Laurie signed a one-year contract with the Newcastle Knights. He joined the team for the 2012 season. He hoped to restart his NRL career under coach Wayne Bennett.
Interestingly, in 2010, Laurie had made some comments about another player, Willie Mason. He said he would "hurt him" if they played against each other. However, in 2012, Laurie and Mason ended up playing on the same team for the Newcastle Knights.
Joining Wyong Roos
In 2013, Daine Laurie joined the Wyong Roos. This team played in the NSW Cup as a stand-alone club. Later, in 2017, it was known that Laurie also played for other local country teams. These included The South Grafton Rebels and The Lower Clarence Magpies.
