The Story of Daisy-Head Mayzie
The book tells the story of a 12-year-old girl named Mayzie. She is a very kind and caring schoolgirl. One day, something really strange happens to her. A bright white daisy suddenly grows right out of her head!
This causes a lot of excitement and worry. Her classmates, family, and everyone in town are surprised. Soon, an agent discovers Mayzie. He helps her become a big celebrity.
The Cat in the Hat is the narrator of this story. He helps Mayzie understand her unusual problem. He also convinces her to go back home. The book even has a short, catchy song. Mayzie's classmates sing it, and it's called "Daisy-Head Mayzie."
Cool Adaptations
Before the book was even published, it became a TV special. Hanna-Barbera created this animated show. It first aired on TNT on February 5, 1995. A few months later, it was released on VHS.
You can also find this special as a bonus. It's on the DVD for another Dr. Seuss show. That show is Horton Hears a Who!
In 2011, Mayzie became a character you could meet. This happened at Seuss Landing. This is a special area in the Universal's Islands of Adventure theme park. It's part of the Universal Orlando Resort in Florida.

Differences in the 2016 Edition
In 2016, the book was republished. This happened after another Dr. Seuss book, What Pet Should I Get?, became very popular. The new edition of Daisy-Head Mayzie uses Dr. Seuss's original words and drawings. Because of this, there are some cool differences between the two versions.
- The Cat in the Hat does not appear in the 2016 book. He is not the narrator.
- The characters look different. They have normal hairstyles. The 1995 edition gave them wild, crazy hair.
- The principal's name is Grumm in the new version. In the old one, it was McGrumm.
- In the 2016 book, a police officer helps Mayzie. He puts a fishbowl over her head. This protects her from bees. In the 1995 version, he catches the bees in his hat.
- Mrs. McGrew is a housewife in the 2016 book. In the earlier version, she was a welder.
- The part where an agent makes Mayzie rich and famous is gone. That whole plot is not in the 2016 edition.
- Since the Cat in the Hat isn't there, the daisy itself talks to Mayzie. It tells her that everyone loves her. Also, Mayzie's flight with the Cat on a flying umbrella is not in the new book.
