Early acting career
Paul Eiding was inspired to become an actor when he was serving in the United States Army in Germany. He joined a performing group called the Marne Glee Club. Even though he was one of the youngest soldiers, he quickly became a director because he had a background in music. The group traveled and performed for soldiers and other people in Germany, Belgium, Denmark, and France.
In the 1970s, Eiding was in many TV commercials. He also worked with theater groups in the Midwest. One of these was Dudley Riggs's Brave New Workshop in Minneapolis. This group focused on improvisation, which means making things up on the spot. Eiding found it tiring because they did many shows each week.
Before moving to Wausau, Wisconsin, Eiding had a small part in the movie F.I.S.T. (1978) with Sylvester Stallone. In Wausau, he led acting workshops and directed a play. He also worked as a director and actor at the Chanhassen Dinner Theater in Minneapolis. In 1981, he hosted the first award ceremony for local theater in the Twin Cities.
In 1983, Eiding played two characters in a play called Cloud 9 in Los Angeles. Later in the 1980s, he appeared in a TV show called The Charmings as a neighbor named Don Miller.
