Universal Orlando Resort is a huge vacation spot in Orlando, Florida. It's a fun place with two amazing theme parks. You can also find CityWalk here, which is a cool area for nighttime fun. Plus, there are three Loews hotels where you can stay.

CityWalk has a big movie theater with 20 screens. It also has many restaurants, shops, and clubs. You can find eight different places to eat and 11 stores for shopping. There are five special entertainment areas too!

Past Attractions: What Used to Be There

Some rides and shows have changed over the years. Here are a few that used to be at Universal Studios Florida:

  • King Kong (This ride was later replaced by Revenge of the Mummy.)
  • Ghostbusters (This was replaced by Twister.)
  • The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera (This was replaced by Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast.)
  • Nickelodeon Studios Tour
  • Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Experience (This was replaced by Shrek 4-D.)

Universal's Islands of Adventure: A World of Adventure

Islands of Adventure is another fantastic theme park in Orlando, Florida. It opened in 1999 and added even more fun to Universal Orlando Resort. This park has six different "islands," and each one has its own special theme.

Themed Islands and Their Adventures

  • The Port of Entry: This is the first area you see when you enter the park. It feels like an Arabian market with lots of shops. You can also find the Confisco Grille restaurant here.
  • Marvel Super Hero Island: Get ready to meet your favorite Marvel superheroes! This island has thrilling rides like:
    • The Incredible Hulk Coaster, a super-fast roller coaster.
    • The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man, a cool simulator ride.
    • Doctor Doom's Fearfall, a ride that shoots you straight up into the sky.
    • Storm Force Accelatron, a spinning ride that's a faster version of a teacup ride.
  • Toon Lagoon: This area is full of water rides and is themed like the cartoons you see in the Sunday newspaper.
    • Popeye & Bluto's Bilge Rat Barges, a wild whitewater rapids ride.
    • Dudley Do-Right's Rip Saw Falls, a log flume with a big 50-foot drop.
    • Me Ship, The Olive, a fun play area for kids.

You can grab a bite to eat at the Comic Strip Cafe or Wimpy's.

  • The Lost Continent: This island feels like a mysterious medieval city.
    • Dueling Dragons is a roller coaster with two different tracks, Fire and Ice.
    • Poseidon's Fury is a special effects show where you explore an underground tomb.
    • The Eighth Voyage of Sindbad is a live action stunt show.
    • The mystical Talking Fountain outside the stunt show talks to people and might even get them wet!
    • Flying Unicorn is a roller coaster perfect for children.
    • You can also find The Enchanted Oak Tavern and Mythos, a restaurant, here.

Former Adventures: What's Changed at Islands of Adventure

Over the years, some attractions at Islands of Adventure have changed or closed:

  • Island Skipper Tours: This boat ride used to take guests around the park's central lagoon. It closed in 2002.
  • Toon Lagoon Live Show: This show with cartoon characters was replaced in 2002 by a BMX stunt show.
  • Triceratops Encounter: In Jurassic Park, there used to be a very lifelike dinosaur experience.
  • Sylvester McMonkey McBean's Incredible Driving Machines: This ride was planned for Seuss Landing but never opened. The tracks are still there, but the ride itself was never finished.
