Revenge of the Mummy: The Ride is an exciting enclosed roller coaster that takes you on a thrilling adventure! You can find this ride at Universal Studios Florida, Universal Studios Hollywood, and Universal Studios Singapore. It's based on The Mummy movies, so get ready for ancient curses and scary mummies.

This ride uses special linear induction motors (LIMs). These motors launch you from a complete stop to a super fast speed of about 45 miles per hour (72 km/h) in just a few seconds! The rides in Florida and Singapore have the same track design, but each location offers a slightly different adventure. All three rides were built by Premier Rides.

History of the Mummy Ride

In 2002, Universal Parks & Resorts decided to create a new dark ride based on the popular Mummy movies. To make space for the new attraction, Kongfrontation at Universal Studios Florida closed on September 8, 2002. At Universal Studios Hollywood, E.T. Adventure closed on March 14, 2003.

The first Revenge of the Mummy ride opened at Universal Studios Florida on May 21, 2004. Soon after, the ride at Universal Studios Hollywood opened on June 25, 2004.

Later, in December 2008, Resorts World Sentosa announced that a Revenge of the Mummy ride would be built at Universal Studios Singapore. This version opened to the public on March 18, 2010. It cost about US$20 million to build, which was less than the US$40 million for the other two rides.

Universal Studios Florida: What to Expect

The Revenge of the Mummy ride at Universal Studios Florida opened on May 21, 2004. This roller coaster uses three special "LIM" launches to make you go from a stop to full speed. The ride lasts almost three minutes and reaches a top speed of about 45 miles per hour (72 km/h). The track is 2,200 feet (670 meters) long. It has no inversions (upside-down loops), but it does have turns that bank up to 80 degrees and a drop with a 50-degree angle.

After the ride, you can buy a photo of yourself at the "Sahara Traders" gift shop. This shop replaced the "Safari Outfitters" gift shop from the old Kongfrontation ride. The huge building that holds the roller coaster used to be home to the famous Kongfrontation attraction. You can even find a golden statue of King Kong inside the ride as a tribute!

Getting Ready: The Queue and Pre-Show

When you enter the ride, you'll walk into a building that looks like a "Museum of Antiquities." Inside, it's set up like a movie studio for a fictional sequel called "Revenge of the Mummy." You'll see movie props, molds, and concept drawings on display.

TV screens around the studio play a video explaining how the first Mummy movie was made. The video also shows how a fictional curse seemed to come true during filming, causing strange accidents. The actor Brendan Fraser (who plays Rick O'Connell) is skeptical and refuses to wear a special medjai symbol that the crew believes will protect them. He even takes a crew member's necklace! The crew member, Reggie, then gets into a weird accident and ends up trapped in a sarcophagus prop.

As you move deeper, the queue changes into an old archaeological dig from the 1940s inside an Egyptian tomb. You'll climb to the second floor to get onto your mine cart, which has individual lap bars to keep you safe.

The Ride Experience: Facing the Curse

As your mine cart starts moving, you enter a dark room inside Imhotep's tomb. You'll see Reggie, the crew member, partly mummified! He warns you: "Are you insane?! Get out of here! The curse is real; this whole place is a trap! He's after your souls!" Before he can finish, Imhotep bursts out of a sarcophagus. Reggie quickly tells you, "Look for the medjai symbol. It's your only hope!" But Imhotep shouts "Silence!" and sucks Reggie's soul away. He then tells you, "With your souls, I shall rule for all eternity!"

Next, your cart moves into a room filled with treasure. Imhotep appears from the sand in front of a tomb mural and tries to tempt you: "Serve me and savor riches beyond measure." Lights reveal more treasure around the room. But he also warns, "or refuse, and savor a more bitter treasure." Mummy soldiers appear, and Imhotep shouts an Egyptian curse: "Akudei makrraken ra!!"

Your cart then speeds into another room where it seems to "hit" a wall. Suddenly, scarab beetles seem to pour out of the wall in front of you! The cart then drops backwards into another room and stops.

Imhotep appears again on a screen above you, moving to the back of the room as your ride vehicle turns 180 degrees to follow him. He warns, "Not even the medjai can save you now. There is no escape. Your end shall be my beginning. Behold your fate. Will this be your destiny?" Then, the ride suddenly launches you forward to 40 miles per hour (64 km/h) while Imhotep screams: "YOUR SOULS ARE MINE!!!" Your mine cart rushes through Imhotep's skull (which is a fog display) and twists through turns, speeding past projections of mummies and fire.

The cart then stops. A female ride attendant appears in a glass booth and thanks you for riding. But Imhotep sucks out her soul, breaks the glass, and sets the ceiling on fire! He shouts, "Prepare to forfeit your souls! Death is only the beginning!" The cart then drops down 39 feet (12 meters), which is the biggest drop on the ride. It goes down a winding path until a medjai symbol appears, and Imhotep shouts "NOOOOO!" as your vehicle passes through it.

Finally, you travel through a tunnel with flickering lights. A screen appears in front of you, showing Rick O'Connell (played by Brendan Fraser). He says, "Hey, welcome back! Hope you enjoyed yourself. I would have enjoyed this interview a lot more if I HAD GOTTEN MY CUP OF COFFEE!!!" Suddenly, a cape flies over the screen, and Imhotep's arm offers Fraser a cup of coffee. Fraser screams and falls back in his chair as the screen goes black. You hear Imhotep roaring over Fraser's screams, and the ride ends. You then exit the ride. As you leave, you might see a "missing persons" poster with Reggie's picture on it.

Universal Studios Hollywood: The Mummy's Curse Continues

The Revenge of the Mummy ride at Universal Studios Hollywood opened on June 25, 2004. Riders must be at least 48 inches tall. This roller coaster also uses linear induction motors (LIMs) to launch you. The ride lasts about 2 minutes and is located in the building that used to house the E.T. Adventure attraction.

This ride features warrior mummies, hidden treasures, and ancient tombs. It has a sudden launch, a scarab beetle attack, and moves both forwards and backwards. The ride vehicles even have surround sound speakers! Some real props from The Mummy film series are used here, along with copies.

Getting Ready: The Queue and Pre-Show

The queue for this ride is set in 1944 and gives you a quick background story about Imhotep. As you walk through the building, you'll see a hole that blasts air every 10 to 15 seconds – watch out for more traps! You'll also see the Book of the Dead. Through a fenced-up peephole, you can spot a mummified man in his sarcophagus surrounded by hungry scarab beetles.

As you go deeper, the building looks more like a tomb. You'll find an abandoned archaeological dig, which is actually Imhotep's burial chamber. Look up at a giant mirror, and you'll see a pictogram of Imhotep grinning, followed by another picture of you being chased by his mummy army! The queue ends at an Ancient Egyptian-themed loading platform, decorated with hieroglyphs and a large scarab beetle statue. Here, you'll board your mine cart-style coaster.

The Ride Experience: A Terrifying Journey

As the ride begins, you enter a dark tomb lit with green and red lights. A mummy comes to life on your left, hissing at you! From above, Omid Djalili's character, Warden Gad Hassan (from The Mummy film), warns you: "Run for your lives! The curse is real! Imhotep lives!" He screams as scarab beetles cover him. Your mine car continues into a dark room, with water drops falling and mummified arms reaching out from everywhere, trying to grab you!

The car slowly moves into a treasure room, filled with golden light and Egyptian hieroglyphs. Two huge statues of Anubis stand next to a screen where Imhotep appears from the sand. He tells you, "Serve me and savor the riches of eternal life." Your mine car makes a sharp turn, and the yellow room quickly turns dark green. Imhotep continues, "And join us in eternal death."

The car moves into a grand gallery, and an animatronic Imhotep speaks a curse in Egyptian: "Akum ra, akum de," before shouting, "Now your souls belong to me... FOREVER!" As he says this, the grand gallery starts to collapse. A wall behind him falls, creating an eclipse, and four more mummy warriors drop down from each side of the track, holding swords.

Your car is then launched at high speed into darkness! This is where your ride photo is taken. The surround sound speakers in your car play exciting music. For 56 seconds, you speed through darkness, going around high banked turns and small drops. Images of mummy warriors and Imhotep light up with ultraviolet light as your car twists and turns.

The mine car suddenly moves sharply uphill and turns left, where the track brakes hard in a corner. Scarab beetles appear on the walls thanks to projectors. Air jets at your feet and a spray of water make it feel like the car is being swarmed by bugs! The car then moves backwards into the underworld as Imhotep's evil laugh fills the air. The vehicle makes a few more twists and turns, with more images of Imhotep and mummies lighting up. Imhotep reminds you, "There's no place to hide! Your souls are MINE!"

The car slows down under a final glowing painting of Imhotep reaching out. It then moves slowly into another room. A turntable spins the car to face forward as fog and strobe lights fill the dark room. As the car faces forward again, Imhotep appears as a projected image and screams "NOOOOO!" before vanishing. After a moment of silence, a bright floodlight hits you. A wall lifts up into the ceiling, letting your car pass through, and a second strobe light flashes. Imhotep's curse is broken as the ride enters the loading platform.

Universal Studios Singapore: A New Storyline

Revenge of the Mummy Universal Studios Singapore
The entrance to Revenge of the Mummy at Universal Studios Singapore.

The Revenge of the Mummy ride at Universal Studios Singapore opened on March 18, 2010. This version is very similar to the one in Florida. However, it has a different story, new sounds, and special effects. It also has a new ending where Imhotep is sealed inside his tomb. The new design for this ride was created by Adirondack Studios, ITEC Entertainment Corp., and Universal Creative.

Getting Ready: The Queue and Pre-Show

Unlike the Orlando version, you enter an Egyptian tomb directly. The inner queue areas feature props from The Mummy movies and wall paintings showing Imhotep's life as a high priest, similar to the Orlando ride. As you walk up the staircase, a sign appears that tells you: "Find the Book Of The Living, Destroy Imhotep's Curse." At the loading station, you'll board mine cars with individual lap bars.

The Ride Experience: The Book of the Living

As your mine car goes deeper into the tomb, you'll see the words "Find the Book" written on the walls. When the car turns, you'll see Evelyn's supervisor trapped on a table. Imhotep stands next to him, holding the Book of the Dead. He lets the supervisor say his last words before sucking out his soul. The supervisor tells you, "Find the Book of the Living and kill Imhotep! It's your only hope!" After taking his soul, Imhotep turns to you and warns, "You will never find the book—your souls will be mine for all eternity." Outlines of the Book of the Living on the walls glow red.

Just like the Orlando version, your vehicle then moves into a room filled with treasure. Imhotep appears from the sand in a tomb mural and does the same actions as in the USA version of the ride.

Your vehicle quickly moves into another room and suddenly stops, almost "crashing" into a wall. This causes scarab beetles to "burst out" from the walls in front and on the sides! Then, the vehicle drops backwards and turns in a 180-degree circle. Imhotep warns you: "You will never find the book. There is no escape. Your end shall be my beginning. Behold your fate!" Then, the ride launches you forward to 40 miles per hour (64 km/h) while Imhotep shouts: "YOUR SOULS ARE MINE!!!" In just a few seconds, you go from 0 to 40 mph! The vehicle speeds up a hill, goes through Imhotep's skull, and drops through various turns past projections of mummies.

The vehicle stops after this, and you'll see the Book of the Living on a pedestal. Soon, Imhotep's voice is heard saying, "Without this book, you will never stop me!" He suddenly appears behind the book, saying "Prepare to forfeit your souls!" The ceiling of the room then bursts into flames as Imhotep threatens you again. He opens the book, causing the writing to glow red as he activates the curse. The vehicle moves forward and drops down "into hell" (this is where the camera is located) and goes down a winding drop before the final brake section.

Further on, you "pass through" a wall and see a sarcophagus hanging from the ceiling with Imhotep trapped inside! His sarcophagus eyes glow red, and he shouts that you can never be defeated. He taunts you with a warning, "Death is only the beginning!", followed by an evil laugh as you move to the unload platform.
