Universal CityWalk facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Universal CityWalk is a cool place with lots of fun things to do! It's an entertainment and shopping area right next to the big theme parks of Universal Destinations & Experiences. Think of it as the exciting entrance to the parks.

CityWalk first started at Universal Studios Hollywood in California. It helps people get from the parking lots to the theme parks. You can also find CityWalk at Universal Orlando Resort in Florida, Universal Studios Japan in Osaka, Japan, and Universal Beijing Resort in Beijing, China.

While CityWalk Hollywood and CityWalk Orlando have some similar stores and restaurants, they look quite different. Hollywood's CityWalk mixes classic and modern styles, but Orlando's CityWalk looks very modern.

Universal CityWalk Hollywood is a separate area from Universal Studios Hollywood. But it's still the main way to get from the parking lot to the theme park. The design of CityWalk Hollywood tries to capture the cool architecture you can see all over Los Angeles.

This CityWalk is like a three-block long street filled with entertainment, places to eat, and shops. It has over 30 places to eat, a huge movie theater with 19 screens (including IMAX), 7 night spots, indoor skydiving, and more than 30 stores.

History

The famous architect Jon Jerde designed CityWalk. It first opened in May 1993. Later, in 2000, it got a big expansion. You'll often see street performers like magicians and musicians entertaining people there.

The main area of CityWalk has a huge, round roof structure. There's also a cool fountain that shoots water high into the air. A giant TV screen shows trailers for Universal movies and other fun videos. Next to it, a huge guitar stands tall over the Hard Rock Cafe.

In January 2010, parts of the music video for Justin Bieber's song "Baby" were filmed here!

5 Towers

"5 Towers" is a special outdoor concert stage at Universal CityWalk. It has amazing technology. The stage is covered in thousands of LED lights. It also has motion sensors, five tall light towers (42 feet high!), a giant video screen, and a super sound system.

This stage is a main artistic part of CityWalk. It's a great place to see live music performances.
