Dakota Dunes is located right between two important rivers: the Big Sioux River and the Missouri River. It's very close to North Sioux City, South Dakota. Both communities share the same postal code, 57049. Dakota Dunes is also only about 5 miles (8 kilometers) west of downtown Sioux City, Iowa.

The Union County Sheriff's office helps keep everyone in Dakota Dunes safe. They are in charge of law enforcement for the area.

The community of Dakota Dunes was planned and built by Berkshire Hathaway Energy. They first shared their ideas for this community in 1988.
Fun and Recreation
Dakota Dunes is home to the Dakota Dunes Country Club. This club has a golf course that was designed by the famous golfer, Arnold Palmer's design company. Another golf club, Two Rivers Golf Club, is also nearby. It used to be known as the Sioux City Boat Club before Dakota Dunes was built.

Dealing with Floods
Because Dakota Dunes is located near two big rivers, it has faced challenges with flooding. In 2011 and 2019, there were big floods along the Big Sioux and Missouri Rivers that threatened the town. The community worked to protect itself during these times.
