Dalby was founded in Center Township. The community was named after a place called Dalby in Norway. This shows the strong connection to its Scandinavian settlers.

Early Services and Buildings

A post office opened in Dalby in 1869. It helped people send and receive mail for many years. However, it closed down in 1885.

The Dalby School was also an important part of the community. It was built in 1851 and was sometimes called Center Township School #7. This school was still standing and in use in 1932.

Community Life and Organizations

The Norwegian Lutheran Church was a central place for the community. It had a cemetery nearby. This church is still active today and is known as the Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church.

In the 1880s, Dalby also had other groups. One example was the Scandinavian Mutual Protective Association. These groups helped people in the community work together and support each other.

Even today, Dalby still appears on official maps from the Iowa Department of Transportation.
