Starting Out in Music
Nkosi recorded his very first song in 1999. In 2001, he was featured on Kurupt's album Space Boogie: Smoke Odyssey. He released a song called "Move" in 2002. This song featured other rappers, Pusha T and Malice. "Move" was played on popular hip-hop radio stations in Los Angeles. In 2002, he also released a mixtape called The Street Album.
Growing His Music Career
In 2006, Nkosi released another mixtape, Congratulations Player. This mixtape included the song "Gotta Stay Paid." This song was also played on major radio stations. Later that year, he signed a record deal with Sony Urban Music. In 2007, Nkosi even appeared on the TV show Monk.
Nkosi then formed a music group called Dubb Union. He created this group with Bad Lucc and producer Soopafly. The famous rapper Snoop Dogg signed their group to his record label. Dubb Union toured with Snoop Dogg and released their album, Snoop Dogg Presents: Dubb Union, in 2008.
Collaborations and New Projects
In 2009, Nkosi worked with the shoe company Adidas. This partnership was for their EQT Campaign, which brought back a popular shoe style. Limited edition shoes were made with Nkosi's logo and the words "Congratulations Player." He recorded a song called "My Adidas" for this campaign. In 2010, Nkosi released a single and music video, "Here Comes Damani," which featured Snoop Dogg.
Nkosi released his album On Vacation From Vacation in 2010. This album featured many artists, including Snoop Dogg and Daz Dillinger. In 2012, Nkosi decided to leave his record labels. He took a break to travel the world. He visited China for a shoe design project. His travels helped him see the big differences between rich and poor people.
In 2014, Nkosi released a song called "Now That's Love." This song featured Robert Glasper and Musiq Soulchild. It was the first song from his album Thoughtful King.
