Dan K. Williams, born on September 23, 1956, is an American politician and a pastor. He is a member of the Democratic Party. Since 2018, he has served as a representative for the 74th district in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
Early Life and Education
Dan K. Williams was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on September 23, 1956. His parents were Willa and Wallace Williams. He grew up in West Philadelphia. He attended and graduated from Overbrook High School.
In 1992, Williams earned a college degree in management from Geneva College. This education helped him prepare for his future career paths.
Pastoral Career
In the 1990s, Dan Williams began his work as a pastor. He became the senior pastor at New Life Christ Fellowship Church. This church is located in Coatesville, Pennsylvania.
Williams continued his religious studies. He earned two advanced degrees from Biblical Theological Seminary. He received his Master of Divinity in 2006. Four years later, in 2010, he earned his Doctor of Ministry. Later, he became a professor at the seminary. He also made history as the first African American to join its Board of Trustees.
Political Career and Public Service
After State Representative Harry Lewis Jr. retired, Dan Williams decided to run for office. He wanted to represent the 74th District in 2018. Williams has always been a member of the Democratic Party.
He won the first election against two other candidates. Then, he won the main election against Republican Amber Little-Turner. Williams was re-elected in both 2020 and 2022. In both of these elections, he won against Republican challenger Dale Hensel.
During his first time in office, Williams worked on an important new law. This law aimed to improve police training. It focused on teaching police how to calm down difficult situations. It also taught them about using force properly. The law also covered how to talk with people from different backgrounds.
This new law was created after many people asked for changes in policing. The bill was approved by everyone in both the Pennsylvania State House and the Pennsylvania Senate. On July 14, 2020, Governor Tom Wolf signed Williams' bill into law. It is now known as Act 59 of 2020.

Dan K. Williams is married to Baleria Alston. They have three children together. The family lives in Sadsbury Township. This area is located in Chester County, Pennsylvania.
