About Dana Inkster

Dana Inkster grew up in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. She studied political science at Queen's University. This means she learned about how governments work and how societies are organized. Later, she earned a special diploma in Communications Studies from Concordia University. Today, she lives and works in Lethbridge, Alberta with her family.

Her Artistic Work

Dana Inkster's art often explores different ways to tell stories. She looks closely at what makes up a person's identity. Her own experiences as a Black artist have helped shape her unique perspective.

Her first film was called Welcome to Africville, released in 1999. In 2008, her film 24 Days in Brooks won an award. This film was about a workers' strike that happened in 2005 at a place called Lakeside Packers. It showed the lives of new immigrant workers who came to Brooks for jobs.

Dana Inkster has also directed a TV advertisement. This ad was part of a campaign to fight against racism in Canada.

She has won several awards for her work. She received the best Canadian female film director prize from the Toronto Images Film Festival. Her film The Art of Autobiography was also honored as the Best Short or Medium-length Documentary by a group of film critics in Quebec.
