The Danaini are a special group of butterflies. They are part of a larger family called Nymphalidae. This group is also known as the milkweed butterflies. Most of these butterflies live in places like southeast Asia.
One of the most famous butterflies in the world, the Monarch (Danaus plexippus), belongs to this group.
What are Genera?
In science, a genus (plural: genera) is a way to group very similar living things together. It's like a small family within a bigger group. The Danaini tribe includes several different genera of butterflies.
Here are some of the genera found in the Danaini tribe:
- Amauris
- Anetia
- Archaeolycorea – This genus is extinct. The little cross symbol (†) means it no longer exists.
- Danaus – This group includes well-known butterflies like the Tigers, Milkweeds, Monarchs, and Queens.
- Euploea – These butterflies are often called Crows.
- Idea – You might know these as Tree Nymphs or Paper-butterflies.
- Ideopsis
- Lycorea
- Parantica – These are sometimes called Glassy-winged Tigers.
- Protoploea
- Tiradelphe
- Tirumala – This group includes the beautiful Blue Tigers.
