Dane Lee Suttle, born on August 9, 1961, is a former American professional basketball player. He used to play for the Kansas City Kings in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Standing 6 feet 3 inches tall, Suttle was a fantastic guard who also shined during his college years at Pepperdine University.

College Basketball Star

Dane Suttle went to John C. Fremont High School in Los Angeles. After high school, he decided to play college basketball for Pepperdine University.

Playing for Pepperdine Waves

Suttle played for the Pepperdine Waves from 1979 to 1983. He was a top player in the West Coast Conference. He was chosen for the all-conference team twice. In 1983, he was even named co-Player of the Year alongside his teammate Orlando Phillips.

Suttle helped lead the Waves to the NCAA tournament two years in a row, in 1982 and 1983. When he finished his time at Pepperdine, he was the school's all-time leading scorer. He had scored an amazing 1,702 points!

A Memorable NCAA Tournament Game

One of the most talked-about games in Suttle's college career happened during the 1983 NCAA tournament. Pepperdine was playing against North Carolina State. The game was very close and went into overtime.

Pepperdine was ahead by six points with only 29 seconds left. Suttle was fouled and went to the free-throw line. He missed his first shot, which meant North Carolina State got the ball back. Suttle was fouled again shortly after, but he missed that free throw too. North Carolina State then scored, and the game went into a second overtime. Suttle eventually fouled out of the game, and North Carolina State won. They went on to win the national championship that year.

Professional Basketball Career

After his successful college career, Dane Suttle was drafted into the NBA.

Joining the Kansas City Kings

In the 1983 NBA draft, the Kansas City Kings picked Suttle in the 7th round. He was the 152nd player chosen overall. He made the team and played in 46 games during the 1983–84 and 1984–85 seasons.

During his time in the NBA, Suttle averaged 5.9 points and 1.0 assists per game. After his professional playing career ended, he became a private basketball tutor. His son, Dane Jr., also played basketball at Pepperdine University, following in his father's footsteps.
