Danelle D’Aquanni Umstead (born February 15, 1972) is an amazing American alpine skier. She is also a Paralympian, which means she competes in the Paralympic Games. These games are a huge international sports event for athletes with disabilities. Danelle is a key member of the US Paralympics team.

Danelle's Skiing Career
Danelle has shown incredible skill and determination in her skiing career. She has competed in several Winter Paralympic Games.
Vancouver 2010 Paralympics
At the 2010 Winter Paralympics in Vancouver, Danelle competed in many alpine skiing events. These included the slalom, giant slalom, downhill, super-G, and combined races.
Her husband, Rob Umstead, was her sighted guide. A sighted guide helps visually impaired skiers navigate the course. Together, they won two bronze medals. They earned bronze in both the downhill and combined events.
Sochi 2014 and Pyeongchang 2018
Danelle continued her success at the 2014 Winter Paralympics in Sochi. There, she won another bronze medal in the super combined event.
She also competed in the 2018 Winter Paralympics in Pyeongchang. She raced in the downhill, slalom, giant slalom, super-G, and super combined events.
About Her Vision
Danelle has a genetic eye condition called retinitis pigmentosa. This condition slowly causes vision loss over time. Despite this, she has become a highly successful athlete.
Beyond Skiing
On September 12, 2018, Danelle Umstead was announced as a celebrity contestant. She joined season 27 of the TV show Dancing with the Stars. Her professional dance partner was Artem Chigvintsev.
