History of Danescourt
Danescourt cricket ground was created in 1890. It became the home field for the Wolverhampton Cricket Club. This club itself was much older, having been started way back in 1835.
Early Matches
The Staffordshire team first played "minor counties cricket" at Danescourt in 1900. Their first big game there was against the Northumberland team. This match was part of the Minor Counties Championship.
Staffordshire's Home Ground
Staffordshire County Cricket Club used Danescourt often throughout the 20th century. The ground hosted 35 matches for the Minor Counties Championship. These games took place between 1900 and 1995.
International Women's Cricket
Danescourt was chosen as one of the special places for the 1973 Women's Cricket World Cup. This was a very important event for women's cricket. The ground hosted one Women's One Day International match during this World Cup.
