Daniel Auteuil's Early Life
When Daniel Auteuil was 16, he started acting on stage. This was thanks to André Benedetto, who ran a theater group in Avignon. Daniel performed in a play called La Demande en mariage by Anton Chekhov.
To make his parents happy, he began studying topography. He also worked at a nightclub on Saturday nights to earn money.
In 1969, after finishing high school in Avignon, he moved to Paris with his friend Roger Miremont. He joined a theater class at Cours Florent. Even though he tried many times, he was never accepted into the famous Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique acting school.
First Steps in Theater and TV
In 1970, Daniel Auteuil made his first appearance at the théâtre national populaire in a play called Early Morning. In 1972 and 1973, he acted in the American musical Godspell.
He worked with famous theater stars like Edwige Feuillère and Maria Pacôme. He also acted alongside François Périer in Coup de chapeau. For this role, he won the Gérard-Philipe prize in 1979 for the best young actor of the year.
In 1974, Daniel Auteuil started acting on television. He appeared in the series Les Fargeot. Later, he was in Adieu Amélie. In 1977, he played a detective named Camaret in the six-episode series Rendez-vous en noir.
His first main movie role came in 1975. Director Gérard Pirès cast him in L'Agression, where he acted with stars like Catherine Deneuve and Jean-Louis Trintignant.

On July 22, 2006, Daniel Auteuil married Aude Ambroggi. She is a sculptor from Corsica, born in 1977. Their wedding took place in Porto-Vecchio, Corsica.
