Daniel John Bedingfield (born on December 3, 1979) is a talented singer, songwriter, record producer, and actor from New Zealand and Britain. He became famous with his first album, Gotta Get thru This, released in 2002. This album had three songs that reached number one in the UK: "Gotta Get thru This", "If You're Not the One", and "Never Gonna Leave Your Side". Over 1.6 million copies of this album were sold in the UK. His second album, Second First Impression, came out in 2004. Daniel Bedingfield was also a judge on The X Factor New Zealand in 2013. He has written songs for other artists and has performed in plays in London's West End theatre.

Early Life and Beginnings

Daniel Bedingfield spent a lot of his childhood in Auckland, New Zealand. He went to Lynfield College there.

Music Journey

Becoming a Star (2001–2003)

Daniel Bedingfield released his first song, "Gotta Get Thru This", in November 2001. This song quickly became popular in the UK garage music scene. It reached the number one spot on the UK Singles Chart. After that, he had two more number-one songs: "If You're Not the One" and "Never Gonna Leave Your Side". He also had three other songs that made it into the top ten.

His first album, also called Gotta Get Thru This, was recorded at home using special music software. This album reached number two on the UK Albums Chart. It sold more than 4 million copies around the world, making him a global music sensation.

New Projects and Collaborations (2004–2011)

In 2004, Daniel Bedingfield won a BRIT Award for Best British Male Artist. He then moved to a new record label, Polydor Records, to release his second album, Second First Impression. This album reached number 8 in the UK.

While it didn't sell as much as his first album, it did include two songs that made it into the UK Top 20: "Nothing Hurts Like Love" (which reached number three) and "Wrap My Words Around You" (which peaked at number 12).

After 2004, Daniel Bedingfield continued to work with many other artists. He helped write the song "Works for Me!" for American Idol finalist David Archuleta. He also worked with Pixie Lott and sang on a song with a former member of The Roots. In 2009, he wrote songs with Tessanne Chin and recorded music with Busy Signal in Jamaica. He also provided backing vocals for Kirsten Morrell's song "He Walked In" in 2010. In December 2010, he spent time in Tel Aviv, Israel, where he wrote and recorded a song with a local band called The Raw Men Empire.

New Adventures: The X Factor and Acting (2012–2016)

In February 2012, Daniel Bedingfield released a new song called "Rocks Off" with a music video. On April 24, he released an EP (a shorter album) called Stop the Traffik – Secret Fear. This was his first EP since becoming an independent artist. The EP included "Rocks Off" and "It's Not Me, It's You," along with five other new songs. The video for his single "Secret Fear" won several awards.

On December 21, 2012, Daniel Bedingfield became a judge on the first New Zealand series of The X Factor. He joined other judges like Stan Walker and Melanie Blatt. The show started airing on TV3 on April 21, 2013. Daniel was the mentor for the "Girls" category. His sister, Natasha, even helped him during the Judges Retreats round. Daniel was the winning mentor of the first series when his act, Jackie Thomas, won the competition!

In August 2013, Daniel Bedingfield was also a judge on a special TV show called X Factor Around the World. He performed two of his songs, "If You're Not the One" and "Every Little Thing", on the show.

Daniel Bedingfield also helped write "I Wanna Feel" by SecondCity, which became a number-one hit in the UK in June 2014. This was his fourth number-one song in the UK. He worked with the K-pop group Spica, helping to produce their first English song, "I Did It." He also guided their singing. In 2015, he co-wrote "Testify" for Ben Haenow, who won The X Factor UK in 2014.

From February to April 2016, Daniel Bedingfield performed in the West End musical The War of the Worlds. He played the role of The Artilleryman.

Recent Tours (2024–Present)

In January 2024, Daniel Bedingfield announced that he would be going on a tour across the UK in April 2024.

Personal Life

In 2004, while visiting his parents in New Zealand, Daniel Bedingfield was in a serious car accident. He suffered severe head and neck injuries.

Daniel Bedingfield is autistic. His mother, Molly Bedingfield, started a charity called Global Angels. Daniel helps with fundraising for this charity. He also helped start the Stop the Traffik group, which works to fight against modern-day slavery.
