Daniel Jorge Castellani (born March 21, 1961 – died June 25, 2026) was a very talented Argentine volleyball player and coach. He played for the Argentine national team for many years, from 1976 to 1988. Daniel won a bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988. He also earned a bronze medal at the World Championship in 1982. Later, he became a highly successful coach for many teams.

Early Life and Family

Daniel Castellani was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was married to Silvina Pozzo. They had two children, a daughter named Ariana and a son named Iván. Interestingly, his son Iván also became a professional volleyball player. Iván played as an opposite spiker for the Argentine national team, just like his father. Daniel passed away on June 25, 2026, when he was 65 years old.

Daniel Castellani had a long and successful career in volleyball. He was both a skilled player and a brilliant coach.

Playing for Argentina

Daniel played for the Argentine national team for 12 years. He helped his country win important medals. These included a bronze medal at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. He also won a bronze medal at the 1982 World Championship.

Becoming a Top Coach

After his playing days, Daniel became a head coach. A head coach is like the team's main leader and strategist. He guided many professional volleyball teams to victory.

Coaching in Poland

From 2006 to 2009, Daniel was the head coach for Skra Bełchatów. This is a famous team in Poland. In 2009, he became the coach for the Polish national team. That same year, he led them to become European Champions! This was a huge achievement for Poland. Because of his success, he received a special award. It was called the Knight's Cross of Polonia Restituta. This is a very high honor in Poland.

Coaching Other Great Teams

Daniel also coached other well-known teams. He worked with ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle in Poland in 2012. He coached Sir Safety Perugia in Italy starting in 2015. Later, he coached Noliko Maaseik in Belgium. He also led Funvic Taubaté in Brazil. For the 2023–2024 season, Daniel was the head coach for Olympiacos in Greece. He helped these teams achieve many successes.
