Daniel Deffayet (born May 23, 1922 – died December 27, 2002) was a famous French classical saxophonist. He was also a very important teacher at the Conservatoire de Paris, a famous music school in France. He took over from his own teacher, Marcel Mule, in 1968 and taught there until 1988.

Daniel Deffayet started learning music when he was just seven years old. Later, he went to the Conservatoire de Paris, which is a top music school. There, he studied the saxophone with a great teacher named Marcel Mule.
A Talented Teacher and Performer
After finishing his studies, Daniel Deffayet became a professor himself. He also played the saxophone with many different groups, including chamber orchestras. These are smaller orchestras that play classical music. He worked with many world-famous conductors like Leonard Bernstein, Pierre Boulez, and Herbert von Karajan.
In 1953, Daniel Deffayet started his own saxophone quartet. A quartet is a group of four musicians who play together. He also made several recordings with Herbert von Karajan and the famous Berlin Philharmonic orchestra.
