Daniel Heath Justice is a well-known writer and professor. He is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation and also a Canadian. He teaches about First Nations and Indigenous Studies, as well as English, at the University of British Columbia.

Daniel Heath Justice started his studies at the University of Northern Colorado. He later earned his master's and doctorate degrees from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Early in his career, he taught English at the University of Toronto. He also worked with their Aboriginal Studies Program.

Daniel Heath Justice has written several important books. One of his most famous is Why Indigenous Literatures Matter, published in 2018. This book helps people understand why stories and writings from Indigenous peoples are so important.

Awards and Recognition

Daniel Heath Justice has received many awards for his work. His book Why Indigenous Literatures Matter won the NAISA Award in 2018. It also received a PROSE Award in 2019 for Literature.

In 2015, he won the UBC Killam Research Prize. This award recognized his leadership in the field of Indigenous Literary Studies. He was honored for his many contributions, including his books and his work on The Oxford Handbook of Indigenous American Literature.

In 2010, he received the Ludwik and Estelle Jus Memorial Human Rights Prize. This award was given at the University of Toronto.
