Daniel Patrick Lafferty (born on May 18, 1989) is a Northern Irish professional footballer. He plays as a left back for Ballymena United.

Danny Lafferty's Football Journey
Starting His Career
Danny Lafferty began his football journey in the youth team at Oxford United Stars. In 2006, he moved to Celtic, a famous Scottish club. In March 2010, he joined Ayr United on a short loan. He played his first game for them in a 2–0 win against Morton. He even scored a goal in a 1–1 draw with Dundee.
After leaving Celtic in 2010, Lafferty signed with his hometown club, Derry City. He helped Derry City win the League of Ireland First Division title that year. This meant they were promoted to the top league, the League of Ireland Premier Division.
Playing for Burnley
On January 30, 2012, Lafferty joined EFL Championship team Burnley. He had a successful trial period before signing. He got the number 3 shirt for the club.
Lafferty made his first team debut for Burnley on March 18, 2012. He played the whole game against Cardiff City. His performance was praised by his manager, Eddie Howe. Fans also voted him as the Man of the Match.
In the 2012–13 season, Danny got more chances to play. This was because some other Burnley defenders were injured. He played in more than half of the league games that season.
Loan Spells from Burnley
In March 2015, Lafferty went on a one-month loan to Rotherham United. Later that year, in October 2015, he joined Oldham Athletic on another loan. He scored his first goal for Oldham in a 1–1 draw against Scunthorpe United in February 2016.
Time at Sheffield United
In August 2016, Lafferty joined Sheffield United on loan. He scored his first goal for them in a 3–0 win against Shrewsbury Town in October 2016. In January 2017, he signed a permanent deal with Sheffield United. This contract kept him at the club until June 2019.
On January 3, 2019, Lafferty went on loan to Peterborough United. He stayed with the EFL League One team until the end of the 2018–19 season. After that, he left Sheffield United.
Joining Shamrock Rovers
In August 2019, Lafferty returned to the League of Ireland Premier Division. He signed with Shamrock Rovers. He played his first game for them on August 27 against Waterford.
Lafferty was part of the team that won the 2019 FAI Cup Final. Shamrock Rovers beat Dundalk on penalties. This was the first time the club had won the cup since 1987. It was their 25th cup win overall.
In 2020, Lafferty helped Shamrock Rovers win their 18th League of Ireland Premier Division title. He scored a very important goal in a 1–0 win against Bohemians. This goal was key to their title success.
Returning to Derry City
On December 17, 2020, it was announced that Lafferty was returning to his hometown club, Derry City. This was for the 2021 League of Ireland Premier Division season. He scored his first league goal back at the club in a 2–0 win over Longford Town.
Lafferty was a substitute in Derry City's 4–0 win over Shelbourne in the 2022 FAI Cup Final. He also scored a goal in their 3–1 win against Shamrock Rovers in the quarter-final.
Playing for Sligo Rovers and Institute
On November 21, 2022, Lafferty joined Sligo Rovers. He played for them until the end of the 2023 season. He made 17 appearances and scored 1 goal.
On January 24, 2024, he signed with NIFL Championship club Institute. He made his debut as a substitute in a 2–2 draw against Ards.
Current Club: Ballymena United
On June 20, 2024, Ballymena United announced that Lafferty would be joining them. He signed a one-year contract.
International Appearances
Danny Lafferty has also played for Northern Ireland at different levels.
Youth International Teams
- He was called up to the Northern Ireland U17 side in September 2005. He played in a win against Lithuania.
- He also played four games for the U19 team.
- He made his debut for the U21 team in August 2008. He played six games at this level.
- In May 2009, he played one game for the Northern Ireland B team.
Senior National Team
In May 2012, Lafferty was called up to the senior Northern Ireland squad. He made his debut in a friendly game against the Netherlands. His first competitive international game was in November 2012. It was a World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan.
He was called up again for World Cup qualifiers in 2017. He was a substitute in matches against Norway, Azerbaijan, San Marino, and the Czech Republic.
