Daniel Patrick Lafferty (born May 18, 1989) is a professional footballer from Northern Ireland. He plays as a left back for Ballymena United.

Danny Lafferty's Football Journey
Starting Out in Football
Danny Lafferty began his football journey in the youth team at Oxford United Stars. In 2006, he moved to Celtic, a famous Scottish club. In March 2010, he joined Ayr United on a short loan. He played his first game for them in a 2–0 win against Morton. He even scored a goal in a 1–1 draw with Dundee.
Later in 2010, Celtic released Lafferty. He then signed with his hometown club, Derry City, in Ireland. He helped Derry City win the League of Ireland First Division and get promoted. In 2011, he tried out for other clubs like Derby County and Brighton & Hove Albion, but he did not sign with them.
Playing for Burnley
On January 30, 2012, Lafferty joined EFL Championship team Burnley. He had a successful trial before signing. He got the number 3 shirt for the club. On March 18, 2012, he played his first game for Burnley against Cardiff City. He played the whole game and received praise for his performance. Fans even voted him as the Man of the Match.
In the 2012–13 season, some injuries to other Burnley defenders gave Lafferty more chances to play. He appeared in more than half of the league games that season.
In March 2015, Lafferty went on a one-month loan to Rotherham United. In October 2015, he joined Oldham Athletic on another loan. He scored his first goal for Oldham in February 2016 in a 1–1 draw against Scunthorpe United.
Time at Sheffield United
In August 2016, Lafferty moved to Sheffield United on loan. He scored his first goal for them in a 3–0 win against Shrewsbury Town in October 2016. In January 2017, he signed a permanent deal with Sheffield United until June 2019.
On January 3, 2019, Lafferty joined Peterborough United on loan until the end of the season. Sheffield United released him when that season ended.
Joining Shamrock Rovers
In August 2019, Lafferty returned to the League of Ireland Premier Division to play for Shamrock Rovers. He played his first game for them on August 27 against Waterford.
Lafferty was a substitute in the 2019 FAI Cup Final. Shamrock Rovers won the cup by beating Dundalk in a penalty shootout. This was the first time the club had won the cup since 1987. In 2020, Lafferty was part of the Rovers team that won their 18th League of Ireland title. He scored a very important goal in a 1–0 win against Bohemians, which helped them win the title.
Back to Derry City
On December 17, 2020, it was announced that Lafferty had returned to his hometown club, Derry City. He scored his first league goal back with the club in a 2–0 win over Longford Town. Lafferty was a substitute when Derry City won the 2022 FAI Cup 4–0 against Shelbourne. He also scored a goal in their 3–1 win over Shamrock Rovers in the quarter-final stage.
Playing for Sligo Rovers
On November 21, 2022, Lafferty joined Sligo Rovers. He signed a permanent deal with them until at least the end of the 2023 season. He played 17 games for the club and scored 1 goal. He was released at the end of the season.
Latest Clubs: Institute and Ballymena United
On January 24, 2024, it was announced that Lafferty had signed for NIFL Championship club Institute. He made his first appearance for them as a substitute in a 2–2 draw against Ards.
On June 20, 2024, Ballymena United announced that Lafferty would join them. He signed a one-year contract, which started after his contract with Institute ended.
International Matches
Lafferty was called up to the Northern Ireland under-17 team in September 2005. He played his first game in a 1–0 win against Lithuania. He also played four games for the under-19 team.
In August 2008, he made his debut for the under-21 team. He played in a mini-tournament in Ukraine. He played a total of six games for the under-21 side. In May 2009, he played for the Northern Ireland B team in a game against Scotland.
In May 2012, Lafferty was called up to the senior Northern Ireland squad for the first time. He played his first senior international game in a 6–0 loss to the Netherlands. His first competitive international game was in November 2012. It was a 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan, which ended in a 1–1 draw.
After playing well for Sheffield United, Lafferty was called back to the national squad in March 2017. He was a substitute for a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification match against Norway. He was also called up for other World Cup qualifiers and a friendly match in June and September 2017.
