The Daniel McCook House

The Daniel McCook House is located on the southwest corner of the Carrollton Public Square. It was built in 1837, which was a time before the American Civil War. This period is often called "antebellum." The house is a great example of the Federal architecture style, which was very popular back then.

What Does the House Look Like?

The house has a central front door. This door is framed by white windows on each side. Above the door, there is a beautiful fan-shaped window. A light sandstone arch sits above this frame. The roof of the house is shaped like a pyramid, which is called a hipped roof. On both sides of the roof, there are two large chimneys.

Who Were the Fighting McCooks?

The McCook family was very famous during the American Civil War (1861-1865). The father, Daniel McCook Sr., was a major in the Union Army.
