Daniel Marcel Olbrychski is a famous Polish actor. He was born on February 27, 1945. Many people think he is one of the best Polish actors of his time. He has acted in over 180 movies and TV shows.

He is well-known for his main roles in movies by director Andrzej Wajda, like The Promised Land. He also played a spy named Vassily Orlov with Angelina Jolie in the movie Salt.

Daniel Olbrychski was born in 1945 in Łowicz, Poland. His parents were Franciszek and Klementyna. He had an older brother named Krzysztof, who became a physicist. Daniel went to the Stefan Batory Gymnasium and Lyceum in Warsaw.

From a young age, he enjoyed sports. He practiced boxing, fencing, badminton, and judo. These skills helped him later in his acting career.

Early Acting Roles

In 1965, Daniel got his first big movie role. He played Rafał Olbromski in Andrzej Wajda's film The Ashes. This was an important start to his career.

In 1971, he won an award for Best Actor. This was at the 7th Moscow International Film Festival for his role in The Birch Wood.

Famous International Movies

Daniel Olbrychski acted in The Tin Drum, a film based on a famous book. He also appeared in one of the short films in Krzysztof Kieślowski's Dekalog series. He had a role in the movie version of The Unbearable Lightness of Being.

In 1986, he played a main part in the film Rosa Luxemburg. That same year, France gave him a special award called the French Legion of Honor. In 2007, he received the Stanislavsky Award for his great acting career.

He also starred in the 1998 film Barber of Siberia. In a survey by Polityka magazine in 1998, he was ranked as the 7th greatest Polish actor of the 20th century.

In 2010, Daniel Olbrychski received a diploma from the National Academy of Dramatic Art in Warsaw. Besides acting, he is known for his athletic skills. He is a good horse-rider, boxer, and is skilled with a sabre. Because of this, he often did his own stunt scenes in movies.

In 2015, he was chosen to be a judge at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival. Throughout his career, he acted in five movies that were nominated for an Academy Award. Two of these movies, The Tin Drum (1979) and Dangerous Moves (1984), won the award.

Daniel Olbrychski has been married three times. He has three children. He has a son named Victor from a relationship with German actress Barbara Sukowa. He has a son named Rafał with his first wife, Monika Dziensiewicz. With his second wife, Zuzanna Łapicka, he has a daughter named Weronika. Since 2003, he has been married to Krystyna Demska.

He lived in France for many years and speaks French very well. He still enjoys boxing as a hobby.
