Daniel Opare: A Football Star
Early Days and Youth Career
Daniel Opare started his football journey at a young age. In November 2007, a famous magazine called World Soccer named him one of the "50 Most Exciting Teenagers on the Planet." This was a big deal!
He earned this recognition because of his amazing speed and accurate crossing skills. Crossing is when a player kicks the ball from the side of the field into the middle, hoping a teammate can score. He showed these skills while playing for the Ghana national under-17 team, also known as the Black Starlets, at the 2007 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
Playing for Top Clubs
Joining Standard Liège
After playing for Real Madrid Castilla in Spain, Opare moved to Belgium. On July 3, 2010, he signed with the Belgian club Standard Liège. He played there for four successful years.
Moving to FC Porto
Just before the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Opare made another big move. On May 20, 2014, it was announced that he had signed with the Portuguese club Porto.
Time with FC Augsburg
In August 2015, Opare joined the German club FC Augsburg. He signed a three-year contract with them.
Playing for Royal Antwerp
After his contract with FC Augsburg ended, Opare returned to Belgium. In July 2018, he signed with Royal Antwerp as a free agent.
Latest Club: Seraing
On January 12, 2022, Opare signed a contract with Seraing, another Belgian club. He played there for about a year and a half.
Representing Ghana
Youth Team Success
Opare was a key player for Ghana's youth national teams. He started as a midfielder but became a skilled defender. He was known for his strong runs forward, helping to start attacks. He also provided precise crosses to his teammates, like Ransford Osei and Sadick Adams.
He was very good at helping Ghana score goals. He provided many assists (passes that lead to a goal) at the 2007 African Under-17 Championship and the 2007 FIFA U-17 World Cup. Many people thought he was the best defender at the 2007 U-17 World Cup.
In September 2009, Opare was part of the Ghana national under-20 team, called the Black Satellites. They played in the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt. Opare helped Ghana win this tournament for the first time ever! They beat Brazil in the final match on October 16, 2009.
Playing for the Senior Team
Opare got his first call-up to the senior Ghana squad very early. Just three weeks after his 17th birthday, on November 13, 2007, he was invited by coach Claude Le Roy. This was for a friendly match against Togo.
He was also part of Ghana's team for the 2008 African Cup of Nations. However, he had an ankle injury and could not play in the tournament.
Later, in December 2011, Opare was again named to Ghana's team for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations. He was selected for the final 23-man squad in January 2012. Even though he was part of the team, he did not get to play in any of the six matches.
World Cup Experience
A big moment in Opare's career was when he was chosen for Ghana's squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. This was announced on June 2, 2014.
In Ghana's first match at the World Cup, he started as the right-back against the United States. Ghana lost that game 2–1. He did not play in their other two matches, and Ghana did not make it past the group stage of the tournament.

Daniel Opare has won several important titles throughout his career:
