Dani Sotres's Football Journey
Dani Sotres was born in Santiago de Cudeyo, a town in Cantabria, Spain. He started his football journey in the youth teams of Racing de Santander, a local club.
Starting His Professional Career
Dani made his first appearance for Racing Santander's main team on April 9, 2012. He was almost 19 years old. He came into the game as a substitute because the main goalkeeper was injured. His team lost that game in La Liga, which is Spain's top football league.
A few days later, he started his first full game, but his team lost again. At the end of that season, Racing Santander was relegated, meaning they moved down to a lower league.
Moving to New Teams
For the 2012–13 season, Dani officially joined Racing Santander's main squad. He played in 14 games in the Segunda División, which is the second-highest league in Spain. However, his team was relegated again to an even lower league.
In January 2014, Dani moved to Recreativo de Huelva. He had to wait a couple of months before he could start playing for them.
Returning to Racing and Other Clubs
On July 29, 2015, Dani went back to his first club, Racing Santander, on a loan for one year. A loan means a player temporarily plays for another team.
After his loan ended, on August 31, 2016, he signed with Atlético Levante UD, which is a reserve team (a team for younger or developing players) also in the third division.
In July 2017, Dani joined RC Celta de Vigo's B team, still in the third division. Then, in August 2018, he moved to Salamanca CF UDS, another team in the same league.
Playing in Top Leagues and Recent Moves
Dani returned to Spain's top football league, La Liga, on July 24, 2020, when he signed with Cádiz CF. However, he was soon loaned out again, this time to CF Rayo Majadahonda, a team in the third division.
In the summer of 2021, he joined Cultural y Deportiva Leonesa. In one of his games, on August 27, his mistake led to the first goal ever scored in the new Primera Federación league.
In January 2023, Dani Sotres moved to Gimnástica de Torrelavega on a free transfer. A free transfer means a player can move to a new club without that club having to pay a transfer fee. He has continued to play for Gimnástica de Torrelavega through the 2023-2024 season.
Playing for Spain
Dani Sotres also had the chance to play for Spain's national youth teams. He played one game for the Spain under-21 team on February 5, 2013. He came on at half-time during a friendly match against Belgium, which ended in a 1–1 draw. A "cap" is a term used when a player plays a game for their national team.
