Her Writing Career
The "Feminist Ryan Gosling" Blog
In October 2011, Danielle Henderson started a Tumblr blog called "Feminist Ryan Gosling". She got the idea from a popular internet trend that used pictures of actor Ryan Gosling. Danielle's blog posts showed a picture of Ryan Gosling with the words "hey girl" at the top. Below that, she added text about feminist ideas she was learning in her master's degree program.
The very next day, her blog became super popular! Websites like Jezebel, GQ, and Time wrote about it. In August 2012, she turned her blog into a book. She stopped adding new posts to the blog in April 2013.
Writing for Magazines and TV
From 2012 to 2013, Danielle worked as a writer and editor for Rookie magazine. She also wrote TV show summaries for Vulture. In 2014, she became the arts and culture editor for The Stranger newspaper. Later, she worked as a culture editor for Fusion Media Group.
A TV agent saw her writing on Vulture and suggested she try writing for television. Danielle then started writing for TV shows. She has written for shows like Difficult People, Divorce, Maniac, and Dare Me.
Her Book: The Ugly Cry
On June 8, 2021, Danielle released her memoir called The Ugly Cry. A memoir is a book about a person's own life experiences. This book talks a lot about growing up with her unique grandmother and other important moments in her life until she was 18.
