Daniyar Yeleussinov's Boxing Journey

Starting as an Amateur Boxer

Daniyar Yeleussinov started boxing in 1999 when he was just eight years old. His father, Marat Yeleussinov, was his coach. An amateur boxer is someone who boxes for fun or for medals, not usually for money. They often compete in big events like the Olympics.

Daniyar quickly became very good. He won a gold medal at the 2010 Asian Games. In 2013, he had an amazing year, winning both the World Championships and the Asian Championships. He was even named the AIBA Elite Men’s Boxer of the Year twice!

Daniyar looks up to famous boxers like Serik Konakbayev and Oscar De La Hoya. When he's not boxing, he enjoys playing football, hockey, and table tennis.

Olympic Success

When the 2016 Olympic Games came around, Daniyar was the captain of the Kazakhstan Boxing Team. Many people thought he would win, and he did! He won all his fights with a clear 3-0 score, showing how skilled he was. He even beat a strong British boxer named Josh Kelly.

People often compare Daniyar's boxing style to famous boxers like Vasyl Lomachenko and Floyd Mayweather Jr.. This is because he is very fast with his hands and feet. He moves well, has great defense, and can hit very hard. Daniyar is the fourth boxer from Kazakhstan to win an Olympic gold medal in the welterweight division. He is also the first of these champions to become a professional boxer.

Daniyar said he looked up to the welterweight boxers who won gold before him, like Bakhtiyar Artayev and Serik Sapiyev. He believes they would have been world champions if they had turned professional.

Becoming a Professional Boxer

In March 2018, Daniyar decided to become a professional boxer. This means he started boxing for money and titles. He signed a contract with a company called Matchroom Sport. He was the first boxer from Kazakhstan to join their team.

Daniyar had his first professional fight on April 28, 2018. He won by a technical knockout (TKO) in the third round against Noah Kidd. A TKO happens when the referee stops the fight because one boxer cannot continue safely.
