Dansbandskampen was a popular Swedish TV show. It was created by Peter Settman and his company, Baluba. Peter Settman also hosted the show for its first two seasons. The show aired on Sveriges Television (SVT). The first season started in October 2008 and ended in December 2008. The show ran for three seasons, from 2008 to 2010.
How the Show Worked
In each episode of Dansbandskampen, five different bands competed. They performed in two parts. First, bands could perform any pop or rock song they chose. After that, they played a "Dansbandsklassikern" (The dansband classic). This was a famous dansband song chosen by drawing.
As the competition went on, finalist bands got to perform their own new songs. The final two bands then performed their own versions of a chosen song. There were also talks about creating similar shows in other countries. For example, a disco or folk music version was discussed for Poland. A country music version was also considered for the United States.
