Who is Dario Marianelli?
Dario Marianelli was born in Pisa, Italy, on June 21, 1963. From a young age, he loved music and studied how to play the piano and how to compose music in Florence.
Becoming a Composer
In 1990, Dario moved to London to continue his studies. He spent a year at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, learning even more about composing. After that, he joined a special three-year program at the National Film and Television School in London. He finished this program in 1997. While he was studying, he also wrote music for concerts, modern ballet shows, and plays.
Making Movie Magic
Dario Marianelli started writing music for films and TV shows early in his career. Some of his first movie projects included Ailsa and Pandaemonium.
A big moment in his career happened when director Joe Wright asked him to compose the music for the 2005 film Pride & Prejudice. This was the start of a great partnership! Dario went on to create music for many more of Joe Wright's films, including Atonement, The Soloist, Anna Karenina, and Darkest Hour. His music helps make these movies unforgettable.
Music for Animated Films
Dario Marianelli has also composed music for popular animated movies. In 2018, he wrote the score for Bumblebee, which is part of the exciting Transformers movie series. This was his second time working with director Travis Knight, after they teamed up for the movie Kubo and the Two Strings. He also composed for The Boxtrolls and Paddington 2. His music for Paddington 2 was even nominated for an award!

Dario Marianelli has received many important awards for his movie music.
In 2008, he won two of the biggest awards in film music for his work on Atonement:
