Player Profile: What Kind of Player is Darius?
Darius Johnson-Odom is known as a point guard and a shooting guard. He stands about 6 feet 2 inches (1.88 meters) tall and weighs around 220 pounds (100 kg). His height and weight help him be a strong player on the court.
Professional Career: Darius's Journey in Basketball
Darius played three seasons at Marquette University. After college, he was chosen by the Dallas Mavericks in the 2012 NBA draft. He was the 55th player picked overall. Right after being drafted, he was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Playing for the Lakers and D-Fenders
During the 2012–13 NBA season, Darius spent time with the Lakers and their D-League team, the Los Angeles D-Fenders. The D-League (now called the G League) is a league where players can develop their skills. He was often sent to play with the D-Fenders to get more game time.
On January 7, 2013, the Lakers decided to let Darius go. He had played only four games for the Lakers, totaling just 6 minutes. Most of his time was spent with the D-Fenders, where he was their top scorer, averaging 21 points per game.
Playing Overseas: Russia, China, and More
After leaving the Lakers, Darius moved to Russia. On January 24, 2013, he joined Spartak St. Petersburg for the rest of the 2012–13 season.
He returned to the U.S. to play for the Boston Celtics in the 2013 Orlando Summer League. Later that year, he signed with the Lakers again but was released before the season started. In October 2013, he signed with the Sichuan Blue Whales in China. However, he left the team after only four games.
Back to the D-League and a Short NBA Return
In January 2014, Darius joined the Springfield Armor in the D-League.
On March 14, 2014, he signed a short 10-day contract with the Philadelphia 76ers. After this contract ended, he was not offered another one. This was his last time playing in an NBA game.
During his NBA career, Darius played 7 games. He holds a unique record: he attempted 11 shots from the field but didn't make any of them. He also didn't score any points from free throws, meaning he finished his NBA career without scoring a single point. He also holds the record for playing the most NBA games (7) without scoring any points.
