What is Dark Oracle About?
Dark Oracle tells the story of teenage twins, Cally and Lance Stone. They find a mysterious comic book. This comic book shows them clues about what will happen in their future. Suddenly, they are pulled into a dangerous comic book world. It's full of fear and surprises. The twins soon learn that the comic, called Dark Oracle, has a secret plan. This plan threatens their lives.
The show mixes real-life scenes with animation that looks like a comic book. Cally and Lance meet their animated versions, Violet and Blaze. These comic characters can change the twins' future. Events in the comic world start to affect their real lives. Cally and Lance must try to stay ahead of Violet and Blaze. If they don't, bad things could happen. The danger grows when Violet and Blaze try to escape into the real world. They want to cause even more trouble there.
The main actors in Dark Oracle are Paula Brancati as Cally and Alex House as Lance. Their friend Dizzy is played by Jonathan Malen. Sage, who Lance likes, is played by Danielle Miller.
The second season of Dark Oracle changed things up. The comic book characters started to get involved directly with the real-life characters. Dizzy and Sage also learned about the comic. They began to have their own strange experiences with it.
Meet the Characters
Lance Stone – Played by Alex House
Lance is Cally's twin brother. He loves video games and comic books more than talking to people. He is very shy and likes to be by himself. When he gets pulled into the comic world, he meets Sage. This helps him start to become more outgoing. In the comic book, Lance's animated version is called Blaze.
Cally Stone – Played by Paula Brancati
Cally is Lance's twin sister. She is pretty and thinks of herself as very sensible. She would be the last person to believe in a comic book that could send you to new worlds. But when strange, supernatural things start happening around her, she has to believe. In the comic book, Cally's animated version is called Violet.
Dizzy – Played by Jonathan Malen
Dizzy is Lance's best friend. Like Lance, he loves gaming and comics. High school can be tough for Dizzy, especially because he has a crush on Cally. Over time, he starts to lose his "geeky" image. He becomes almost cool! Later, Lance and Cally decide to tell him about the magic comic book.
Sage LaPierre – Played by Danielle Miller
Sage works at the Gamers Cave Comic Book Store. She becomes Lance's girlfriend. She doesn't usually notice the strange things happening around her. But Lance and Cally eventually tell her and Dizzy all about the comic book. Sage and Lance break up twice because of the comic's influence.
Doyle – Played by Mark Ellis
Doyle owns the Gamers Cave Comic Book Store. He spends a lot of time in the back of his shop. This back room is also a secret meeting place for a group called the Necromancers. Lance and Cally suspect that Doyle is somehow connected to the mysterious comic book.
Omen – Played by Kristopher Turner
Omen was turned into a frog by Doyle. This was to keep his magic under control. In the first episode, Omen hears Lance talk about learning from comics. Omen then uses his remaining magic to turn an old comic into the Dark Oracle.
Omen escapes and hides in Cally's backpack. Cally unknowingly takes him home and names him Nemo. He turns back into a human when Lance kisses him, like in the frog prince story. Cally later meets Omen at school and starts to like him. But Omen's plan was to use Cally to get to Doyle. Lance turns Omen back into a frog by kissing him on the cheek.
Omen returns in the last episode of season one. Cally and Lance turn him human again to get rid of Violet and Blaze. He tries but fails. He tries to get revenge on Doyle at a party. But he gets pulled into a mirror by Violet and Blaze. They welcome him back to the comic world.
In season two, Omen is being chased by Violet and Blaze inside the comic. He makes a deal with them. Vern helps Omen escape the comic book. Omen then uses a spell to switch Lance and Blaze into the real world. Omen tries to help Cally, but Blaze reveals Omen's deal, and Cally leaves him.
Later, Omen reveals his true feelings for Cally. Doyle, Vern, and Omen work together on a powerful spell. Omen sacrifices himself to save Cally from a dangerous spell. It's not clear if he dies or goes back to the comic.
Annie – Played by Barbara Mamabolo
Annie is Cally's best friend. They often argue because of the comic book. When they fight, Annie hangs out with Kathleen. But they always make up. Annie supports Cally in almost everything. She never learns about the comic book. Annie does not appear in season 2.
Vern – Played by David Rendall
Vern is a goth classmate of Lance and Cally. He is not really a friend or an enemy. He often hangs out with Simone. Vern tries to learn about the magic powers that Omen and Doyle have. Sometimes he causes trouble for the twins. Other times, he helps them. Vern even saved Lance's life once.
Emmett – Played by Nathan Stephenson
Emmett starts to like Cally. But because of the comic and Omen, their relationship ends.
