Starting in the Minor Leagues
Dave started playing in the minor leagues in 2008. He played for teams like the Billings Mustangs and the Dayton Dragons. In 2009, he played for the Sarasota Reds. He worked hard to improve his skills.
In 2010, Dave had a fantastic year. He played for the Lynchburg Hillcats and the Carolina Mudcats. He hit very well, with a batting average of .361. He also hit 9 Home runs and had 62 RBI. Because of his great performance, he was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Southern League.
He was then promoted to the Triple-A team, the Louisville Bats. He continued to play well there. For the whole 2010 season, he had a .342 batting average. He was even named the Reds Minor League Hitter of the Year.
Reaching the Major Leagues
In 2011, Dave was invited to spring training with the Reds' main team. He played incredibly well, hitting .564. Even though he played great, he was sent back to Louisville. This was partly because the team's main roster was already full.
But Dave kept hitting well in Louisville. On August 7, 2011, he finally got his chance. He was called up to the major leagues for the first time. He made his MLB debut against the Chicago Cubs.
Playing for the Chicago Cubs
